Cosmetic Dentistry

Well to begin we view “cosmetics” as part of every procedure we provide. It is not something extra.

If a procedure is completed so that it is in harmony with the occlusion (bite and smile appearance), periodontium (gums and supporting jaw bone), and hard tissue (tooth shape, size and shade) then its outcome will be cosmetic.

It is that simple.

Unfortunately for patients trying to decide on a particular procedure or provider, the term “cosmetic dentistry” can be quite misleading. There is NO recognized subspecialty for cosmetic dentistry in the United States. There do exist cosmetic “societies” and “organizations” which have their own rules and accreditations but there are no formal residency programs or standardized qualification exams.

Lower Columbia Oral Health is without a doubt the best, most professional group of doctors, technicians and administration staff that I have ever dealt with. Their professionalism, expertise and knowledge is beyond anything I've ever experienced before. Thank you all for your services!

Thus the term “cosmetic dentistry” has several meanings and no real definition. A “cosmetic” procedure could be as simple as repairing a small chip on a front tooth with composite (bonding) to reshaping and re-shading the dentition with veneers and crowns to a full mouth reconstruction implementing an implant supported prosthesis.

Cosmetic procedures also include orthodontics (braces), periodontics (gum procedures), and oral surgery.

The important factor therefore has little to do with the type of procedure offered but rather the correct implementation of restorative prosthetics (fillings, inlays, veneers, crowns, bridges, implants), orthodontics, and oral surgical procedures to achieve the desired outcome.

As Dr. Haghighi often quips: “We’re not always right, but we are VERY rarely wrong” :)
